Fate brought us together when Percy France hired me as a guest vocalist to work at Brooklyn's Flamingo Club. A fine bassist indeed! At 82 and still going strong. This year Leonard made my family connection to my second cousin Clark Monroe. Clark Monroe's Uptown was a famous jazz nightclub in Harlem during the 1940's and 50's. Clark also ran Kelly Stables Jazz Club and the Famous Door on West 52nd street later on in the 50's. Now I know why I love jazz so much. It's in my blood! |
