I met this wonderful legendary singer when I was five years old. In 1956 she had her car garaged at 11 West 100th Street in New York. My father was the garage manager. She me encourage to take piano and vocal lessons because she felt that I had potential to make it in the music business. Many years later while working with Weldon Irvine jazz ensemble I was hired as her back-up singer. When I told her that she knew my father, he was the manager from the 100th street parking garage she lit up like a Christmas tree! |
